Step Into Courageous Leadership

As winter approaches with more dark hours in the day, we may feel inclined to retreat and go inwards. This is a perfect time for self-reflection and looking at how we want to show up in our life and in our role as  a leader in our community. It is a good time to look at how far we have come, how our perspective has shifted and where we want to elevate ourselves.

I have been reflecting on my own professional and personal journey. If you had told me five years ago that I would be traveling the world, coaching people to be inspiring leaders, leading courses and feeling confident in what I have to offer the world, I would have laughed out loud.

That would have sounded like a path laid out for someone else, someone more experienced, more knowledgeable and certainly more confident. So how did I end up here? I am passionate about the work I do. I believe in the power of leadership and want to create space to explore that with others.

The secret sauce? I found the courage to go after my dream, step into spaces I didn’t feel that I quite belonged in yet, and pushed aside my limiting beliefs telling me that I wasn’t the person to be here. It was at this juncture that Brené Brown’s work crossed my path and the Gifts of Imperfection and Daring Greatly were game-changing books that helped me to live wholeheartedly and get into the arenas I was scared to enter. Waiting until I felt “ready” to create the business I wanted, or serve the clients I wanted to serve was simply holding me back.

If you wait until you are ready, you’ve waited too long.

I never say to myself, “Oh, I am so lucky to have this business”. Luck had nothing to do with it. What I do say to myself is: “I am grateful  I found the courage to get outside my comfort zone, follow my heart, and show up as the leader I want to be in my life and business”.

Stepping into courage is what creates strong leaders. It is what inspires others to do the same. It is pushing aside the belief of “why me” and shifting it to “why not me”. A lot of the time I am scared, nervous and uncomfortable. I have learned that making mistakes is part of the process of growing and becoming a courageous leader. I have also learned that I am my own biggest critic, and most of the time nobody else cares about my mistakes but me!

My wish for you: take the risk, show up in your spaces and dare to lead with courage.

I am teaching a course in four cities that will help you find your groove and step into daring and fearless courage. Check out if Dare to Lead is coming to your city and let’s work together in vulnerability, trusting and learning to rise up.

Let’s get brave together!
